Getting the Chickens

We bought the chickens one week before Easter in April 2020.  Travis went to Tractor Supply to get supplies to fight off the mice we had heard in our house the night before, essential supplies as this was during the Covid-19 pandemic.  While there he had to facetime me because it was taking everything he had not to bring home the baby chicks right then. However, after a short talk that night, we went the next day and came home with 4 baby chicks!  We had always had intentions of getting chickens because the house came with a coop but this kind of threw us right into things, which is really the best way we operate. They were out of heat lamps at the store so we got a bulb and pulled a heat lamp from the coop.  The tub we had intended to have the chicks in was way too small given the size of the food and water containers we had purchased. Luckily Travis has become quite handy and was able to build them a large wooden box for their brooder. Within a few days we had to build it up higher with cardboard and we are working on replacing the cardboard with chicken wire.
