Super Bowl Scotcharoos
These adorable treats are the perfect addition to any football themed party!
Super Bowl, Senior Night, Graduation Party, Awards Ceremony, you name it, these tasty bites are sure to be a kick off at your next event.
It all started because we were planning to attend a Super Bowl party and I had recently made my highly requested Monster Cookies and Chocolate Chip cookies for other events so felt the need for something different. If you know me, you know I love a good theme and I love to go all out!
I saw some great ideas online but most were on cut out cookies and I wasn’t in the mood for those and had ingredients to make Scotcheroos (as we call them). So I tried to come up with a way to create designs I had seen online on these delicious bars and here is what I came up with!
I followed the recipe in the photograph with a few exceptions.
The first exception being once mixed well, instead of putting the warm mixture into a greased 13x9 inch pan I put them on a 13x9 inch baking sheet lined with parchment paper and rolled them lightly with a rolling pin until evenly spread throughout the pan. I did this so I could easily cut them out.
I did not have a football or a circle cookie cutter so I used a Christmas lightbulb cookie cutter and the top from a small jar of peanut butter. With the Christmas lightbulb I pressed it into the bars then flipped it the opposite direction, lined it up the best I could and pressed all the way through, leaving the bulb part out of the design.
I was able to work quickly enough that the mixture was still warm so I balled it back up and rolled it out with the rolling pin then cut out what I could again. The rest I cut into little squares.
The other exception is that I halved the chocolate/butterscotch frosting. I did this because I did not plan to dump the frosting onto the bars like usual, but to individually frost them instead.
After the frosting was warm I spread it over all off the football and *circle shaped Scotcheroos.
*For the circle shapes I frosted one half then sprinkled green sprinkles for the field, then came back to them and frosted the other half and sprinkled colored sprinkles for the fans.
I warmed up one block of white almond bark chocolate, placed a frosting tip in the corner of a plastic bag, then put the warm white frosting in the bag. I used this to make the details like the football laces and field lines.
I let them dry before putting them in a plastic tote with a layer of parchment paper between them for storage and transportation.
I will be honest, they turned out way better and were way easier to make than I thought they would be!
At the party I displayed them on a glass plate with a square piece of artificial turf underneath it.
