Painting Our Bedroom
Painting the trim and walls in our bedroom was one of our first projects. I had been watching a lot of the show “Fixer Upper” so we decided from the beginning that we were going to use Magnolia Homes Paint crafted with Kilz by Joanna Gaines for all of our projects. It is fast drying and a paint and primer in one with a great color palette. It can be found at most Ace Hardwares.
With our trim starting out so dark, I have found that using one layer of Kilz Original Interior Primer then two layers of Magnolia Homes Trim and Cabinetry works best for the look we want. We painted all of the trim around the floor, closets, windows and door true white. On our door leading out to the patio I used the color Shiplap, our bedroom walls are the color Weekend with an eggshell finish.
I painted our closet doors with the same trim and cabinetry paint but intentionally did not use the primer because I wanted to distress them. After the paint dried I used a hand sander to remove some of the layers of paint to give it a distressed look.Products linked are my favorites or highly recommended for each project. After updating our room, we ended up getting a new bed so we were no longer able to use the headboard that matched our bedroom furniture, which being the traditional type of headboard it never sat right and left marks against the wall and new paint. I found a headboard that attached directly to the wall and we have been much happier with the look, feel and silence it brings.
Our "Map of the World" wall decor was a gift and I can no longer find it and I made the "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" wall art but if I had to pick out a pieces to replace them I would choose something similar the what is linked!
